Incidence of congenital anomalies in Holy Makkah AL-ZAIEM M. ; RAHIM T. A. ; AL SAED A Pediatric Surgery Department, Al Noor Specialist Hospital, Makkah, ARABIE SAOUDITE Abstract Objectives: To find out the indicence of congenital anomalies requiring urgent surgical procedures in Holy Makkah. Setting: Al Noor Specialist Hospital, Holy Makkah. Design: A retrospective study of congenital anomalies which required urgent surgical procedures over a period of 6 years and 4 months. The incidence of each anomaly was calculated in reference to the number of live births. The number of live births during this period was 131879 with a rate of 20820 in a year. Our study compared with two international studies. Results: There is a higher incidence of ano-rectal malformation, diaphragamatic hernia, esophageal atresia and meconium peritonitis. The incidence of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, jejuno-ileal atresia exomphalos, gastroschisis and neural tube defect was less in our Series Saudi medical journal (Saudi med. j.)
